Rita Rodrigues
High school teacher (Visual Arts) currently working on commission at the Directorate-General for Culture (Madeira), within the Services Board for Cultural Heritage. She has presided over the Heritage Studies Division since 2020.
Rita Rodrigues holds a PhD in Intercultural Studies (2013), a Master’s degree in History / specialization in Art History (2000) from the University of Madeira and a License degree in Visual Arts / Painting from Madeira’s Higher Institute of Visual Arts (1987).
She joined ARTIS (IHA/FLUL) in 2016, as an integrated member, and is also a member of Az – Azulejo Research Network and CIERL – the Research Centre for Regional and Local Studies of the University of Madeira.
Her research is centred on Madeira’s cultural heritage and artistic commissions (16th to 19th centuries) and has led to the publication of books, dictionary entries and articles in journals, catalogues and cultural guides (regional, national and international publications). She also studies contemporary art in a regional context and has curated visual arts exhibitions (Madeira) and museum exhibitions (Madeira and Lisbon).
